Dudley started in the fruit market when he just turned 14 , he was gently eased into the business by his Father Colin working at weekends and was hooked from day 1. He has now spent 40 years selling fruit and veg in all weathers and has loved every minute. “Being at work 6 day per week also ensures that I can keep my finger on the pulse with the changing trends within the fruit industry”. As well as running this multi million pound fruit and veg company he also overlooks his transport and storage business , a necessity to go hand in hand with fresh deliveries.
Veronica joined Thomas Baty Ltd 15 years ago after successfully running her own company. As Office Manager Veronica keeps the Accounts department running smoothly and efficiently. Outside of the office Veronica loves nothing more than a game of golf and catchup with friends.
Richard is dedicated to the growth and development of Thomas Baty Ltd, managing projects such as the new computer system which saw the company move from pen and paper sales to wireless tablets and email. Richard enjoys motorsport, camping and hill-walking.
Steven shares the title of general manager with Jimmy and is a loyal member of staff, working at Baty's for over twenty years, Steven manages our vast range of salads and exotics from the humble tomato to delicious dragon fruit. Steven is a long-term football fan holding a season ticket for Newcastle United; he says “I’ve been with Thomas Baty Ltd for most of my working life, we’re like a big family!”
Jimmy is the General Manager and “Spudmeister”, our resident potato expert with over twenty years in the trade at Thomas Baty Ltd. A keen golfer and loyal Newcastle United supporter, Jimmy is equally happy playing eighteen holes or enjoying the excitement of a home match at St James Park.
Micheal is in charge of vegetables, everything from carrots and cabbages to pumpkins and purple sprouting broccoli. This is Michael’s second spell with Thomas Baty Ltd having started here as a young man before making his name as a National Account Manager for the likes of Nestle. Michael is a lifelong Sunderland Football Club supporter and also plays the beautiful game himself as a sweeper in the Sunderland Over-40s League.
A fruit ‘peddler’ for as long as he can remember, Kevin’s passion and effervescence are obvious to everyone he meets and belie his deep understanding of the fruit trade. Kevin is very much a family man, a dad of three who enjoys spending time with his children swimming, eating out or shopping (his daughter’s favourite!)
